Indigenous Arts and Science
Indigenous Arts and Science
Indigenous Arts and Sciences (IAS) is a collaboration with Native Nations throughout Wisconsin, rooted in the widely held Native values of respect, relationship, reciprocity, and responsibility. Through work with youth, families, communities, and teachers, IAS addresses the need for culturally relevant learning experiences and career exploration in the context of environmental education.
Bad River’s IAS program hosts an annual 5-week summer program every June-July to highlight the tribe’s natural resource career paths, the Bad River and larger Lake Superior watershed, as well as traditional ecological knowledge and Anishinaabe culture. This program is available to Bad River students and other Native youth who are incoming Ashland high school students.
Additionally, the Bad River IAS program works with other tribal programs to support traditional harvests, seasonal activities, and youth events throughout the year.
Indigenous Arts and Sciences is a joint initiative between the Bad River, Ho-Chunk, Lac Courte Oreilles, Lac du Flambeau, and Red Cliff Nations and Earth Partnership.
