The information your household provides will help correct and challenge inaccurate Census data that provides funding for essential Tribal programs and grants.


Your Household Will Receive a $50 Gas Gift Card

The Bad River Tribe is conducting a Census & Community Needs Assessment of Bad River Reservation residents to collect up-to-date information the Tribe can use to better serve the membership. The data collected in the needs assessment will be used to support program design, strategic planning, emergency planning, and to strengthen grant applications.

Bad River has enlisted Big Water Consulting, specialists in tribal data collection, to coordinate data collection and ensure responses remain anonymous. Who will participate in the survey?

All households on the reservation will be asked to participate. The representative of each home who completes the survey must be at least 18 years old. Households selected will receive a door hanger at their address with their household’s survey code.

Where is my survey code?

Your survey code will be dropped off at your home on a door hanger. If you are unable to complete the survey online, staff will help you complete the survey on a tablet. If you prefer, you ask field staff to provide a paper form.

Why should I take this survey?

Financial resources depend on accurate information collected by this survey instrument; your response to the survey is essential to ensuring household are accounted for. When you respond to this survey, you help your community gets its fair share of the more than $675 billion per year in federal funds spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs.

Will compensation be provided for my participation?

Households will receive a $50 gas card incentive.

How does my household participate in the Housing Needs Assessment Survey?

Field staff hired by the Tribe will visit randomly selected homes to ask an adult member of the home to answer the survey questions online or, if necessary, using a paper form. The field staff member can also provide information about scheduling a follow-up call or visit. All responses will be kept confidential.

What types of questions will I be asked on the Housing Needs Assessment Survey?

The following are examples of the topics and questions addressed in the survey:
– Household income and expenses
– Number of people living in your home
– Education & Employment
– Culture, Food Sovereignty, and Natural Resources
– Housing
– Transportation
– Child Care

Will the Tribe or Tribal Programs see our data?

The information you provide will be kept confidential and not shared with the Tribe on an individual level. The data will only be reported in aggregate, obtained through combining individual responses. Survey data will go directly to the outside consultants at Big Water Consulting who will safeguard all collected data and sanitize it of any Personally Identifiable Information. You will not be asked for your name, social security number, address or other Personally Identifiable Information.
