This position will be an integral member of the Bad River Tribe’s administrative team.The Communications Specialist will advance Bad River Tribal initiatives and (Intentions) by developing effective communication methodologies, tools, and public messages while accessing the most useful and available media technologies. Primary responsibilities will include providing layout and editorial support for Bad River’s tribal e-newsletter; creating print and web documents and graphics using professional page layout and graphic design software; Editing and manipulating photos; Developing and maintaining a detailed photo library; Composing, editing, and proofreading copy for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and formatting; Updating website photo and text based content and well as covering local community events. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement an overall Bad River Communication Plan. Assure that all internal and external communications are delivered in a culturally competent manner. Assess Bad River Tribal communication/media capacity, technology knowledge, and applications preferences. Evaluate communication effectiveness. Work with the Bad River programs, to assist with program communications such as written briefs, graphic design, publications, events, newsletters and website features. Collaborate with all tribal programs and entities to promote events and report activities. Create written materials including brochures, letters, flyers, memos and posters to communicate Bad River’s mission. Prepare reports according to Bad River Administration. Participate in various committees within and outside tribal operations as deemed necessary and appropriate to the position. Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions as deemed necessary. Must maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times. Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Working Relationships and Scope: This position requires frequent contact with employees within departments and throughout organization for the purpose of gathering and sharing relevant information. Establish regular communication network with various tribes to obtain and provide information. Ongoing contact with federal and state agencies as requested for purposes of remaining current on various issues. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Valid      Driver’s License—Must meet requirements of Tribal Driver’s Insurance Bachelor’s      degree in graphic design, communication, public relations or related field      required. Additional experience and training in media relations, social      media and computer technology preferred. Experience      working with a Native American Tribal organization with the proven ability      to work in complex community environments and on multiple tasks      simultaneously. Ability      to work independently on assignments and collaborate with a team as needed. Individual      must possess: artistic capacity, excellent verbal and written      communication skills; strong organizational skills, professional demeanor      and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time      effectively; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure;      ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external      customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of      people; speak in front of groups. Must      follow strict confidentiality and data protection policies. Must possess      valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate      insurance and ability to travel.   Working Conditions: Work is performed mainly in an office environment with minimal exposure to injury. Requires regular travel for the purposes of meeting with various tribes. Position requires bending and lifting up to 15-20 pounds. Regularly scheduled work hours are 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday and will usually average 40 hours per week. There will be some variation in working hours and demand due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's      degree Communication, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field      and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties described Software      knowledge requirements: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and      Acrobat. Dreamweaver is a plus Strong      ability to write and edit content is essential Well-developed      layout and design skills Understand      the importance of keeping workflows and processes streamlined and project      file organized Knowledge      of journalism and public relations practices Awareness      of and ability to implement current trends in digital media/social media Self-motivated      with a positive and professional attitude Understanding      web-related technologies, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading      Style Sheets (CSS), and knowing the traits and idiosyncrasies of various      web browsers and operating systems is a plus Video      editing experience preferred Drug-Free Workplace in accordance with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, P.L. 100-690 and the Bad River Tribe’s Employee Policy & Procedures Handbook.
