POSITION: On-Call Shelter Staff Volunteer

WAGE: Stipend-$50.00/per 8 Hour Shift

RESPONSIBLE TO: Social and Family Services Director
The Shelter Volunteer will be responsible for answering the program shelter intake phone line, providing emotional support, education and referrals to callers; assist with the basic daily needs of the shelter facility and shelter residents; and comply with all shelter direct-service policies and guidelines.
On-call hours include working weekends, weekday afternoons and evenings, over nights for after hour phone line coverage and in accordance to the day-to-day management and specific coverage of the shelter operations, which is contingent on a rotation system.
Must attend shelter/program related meetings/training and perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Director of Social and Family Services.
Physical Requirements: Sedentary work with some walking, lifting and standing is required. May be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Must have understanding in the area of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault/Abuse, and Stalking. Must be alcohol/drug free; maintain sobriety and violence free lifestyle. Must be a self-starter, and demonstrate the ability to follow directions; be able to work with minimal supervision; have good previous work record. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in diverse settings and communicate effectively with a broad range of related systems. Must maintain strict compliance with Privacy Act requirements and Confidentiality Policy. Subject to background security checks with no pending legal issues. There will be training required for this volunteer position, such as: basic advocacy, crisis calls and confidentiality.
You would be required to attend training as needed for this volunteer position throughout your timeframe at the shelter.
