The Bad River Child Welfare Committee, (members are designated by the Tribal Council to meet, consider the conditions of a child alleged to be in need of care; and determine whether a case commenced in another jurisdiction should be transferred to children’s court; or whether the Tribe should intervene in the proceeding in the other jurisdiction) has three opening for new members.

Anyone interested in serving on this committee and is committed to:

·Provide the Tribal Council timely, accurate information regarding the impact of policy, program, budget and legislation changes that affect child welfare services;

·Develop recommendations for DS&FS in child alleged to be in need of care cases and cases commenced in another jurisdiction.

·Sign and comply with Confidentiality Agreement;

·Attend two trainings per year; with all expenses paid by Bad River Tribe and/or DS&FS; and

·Keep his/her copy of any minutes and ensure they are kept confidential; ensuring all safeguards to prevent breach of confidentiality; and

·Will work with DS&FS staff to recruit foster families; via community forums, fundraisers, conferences, etc.

Please note:  Members receive no compensation for their services and background checks are required.  NO ICW employee or immediate family member of the ICW Department shall be eligible for or appointed to Committee.

Please drop off or mail a signed and sealed letter explaining: your interest, work and personal experiences, education and/or credentials, and a narrative with any other details pertinent to your work, understanding and/or commitment to the Bad River Children’s Codes, Tribal Court, ICW procedures . . etc.  Please state on outside of envelope: Attention:  Child Welfare Committee; letters can be dropped off with Barb Smart (Executive Director) or Alicia O’Connors at the Bad River Administration Building or mail letter ATTN:  Child Welfare Committee, PO Box 39, Odanah, WI 54806.  All letters must be signed and include your current contact information and must be received no later than 3/15/2012 at 4:30 PM.  

Committee will post all new vacancies, as needed to fulfill the seven member positions. Committee will review applicants based on credentials and make recommendations, all of which will be submitted to Bad River Tribal Council for approval.  Posting will be in five Tribal buildings for thirty days.  (Posted 2/13/12 until 3/15/12).
